Recent and current work is in the areas of racism theory, poverty policy, political sociology, urban sociology, and criminal justice. In addition to numerous journal articles, book chapters, and other publications, Professor Cazenave coauthored Welfare Racism: Playing the Race Card against America’s Poor, which won five book awards, and has more recently published Impossible Democracy: The Unlikely Success of the War on Poverty Community Action Programs and The Urban Racial State: Managing Race Relations in American Cities. Professor Cazenave has completed a draft of a book manuscript titled Conceptualizing Racism: Breaking the Chains of Racially Accommodative Language and is also currently working on a book project tentatively titled “The Right to Kill: Police and Civilian Racial Vigilantism in Twenty-First Century America.”
