The Milton R. Stern prize is awarded every year for the best essay in American Studies by an undergraduate student. The deadline for nomination is announced in the fall semester. Candidates are nominated by a member of the UConn faculty, and most be in their junior year at the time of nomination.
Faculty who have taught relevant courses, regardless of the specific disciplinary field in which they hold appointments, are invited to nominate students. Students who have the highest g.p.a. and who have completed the most substantial work in American Studies courses will be asked to submit a paper originally written for one of their courses. An interdisciplinary panel of scholars will read the papers of the top three finalists and name the winner, who will receive public recognition and a monetary prize during an awards ceremony held later in the fall.
