Nancy Shoemaker
Professor, History
Nancy Shoemaker, Professor of History, teaches courses in American Indian history and historical methods. She has published articles and books in American Indian history from the seventeenth through the twentieth centuries, which focus on the history and dynamics of race, gender, family, demography, and Indian-European cultural encounters, such as her most recent book A Strange Likeness: Becoming Red and White in Eighteenth-Century North America (2004). Her current research is on New England Indians and the American whaling industry.
